18.Some people believe that college students should consider onlytheir own talents and interests when choosing a field of study.
Others believe that college students shouldbase their choices of a field of study on the availability of jobs in thatfield.
Write a response in which you discuss which view more closely aligns with your own position and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should address both of the views presented.
How should a student determine what majorhe/she will enter, by job prospect or by his/her talent and interest?Obviously, this is just one of the many questions about life choicesthat just do nothave a single undebatable answer. It is reallya matterthat is completely up to one'sself-understanding.
开篇:疑问式点题,然后自答提出论点,开放式各自有理。
Not everyone graduating from high schoolknows who he/she really is.Takethe Chinesehigh school education systemfor example.Everyone here takes a similar set of curriculum. If you focus on science andtechnology, you're required to take Chinese, math, English, physics, chemistry, and biology; or if you focus on the humanities, you will have to take Chinese, math, English, politics, history, and geography. Most students are, therefore, not actually aware of other possibilitiesthat could one day influence theircareer.Infact,a lot of skills that could later become important assets in aprofession, for example, communication skills, the ability to handle pressure, and physical strength, cannot be reflected atthis state.Consequently,if a student is not exceptional in any of these fields, chances are highthathe/sheknows about neither his/her own passion nor his/her natural gift. What ishis/her best bet for a choice of major then?I do believebasing the decision on job availabilityis the rational thing to do. Today, if you pick computer science, for example, even if you only attend a second-tiercollege and you get an average GPA of C , you are still going to be popular onthe job market. Many internet startups are in desperate need of coders, sothese professionals get much higher pay than fresh graduated from most othermajors.Yes,the student may not enjoy his/her job, but let's be realistic. He/She will haveenough money, and he/she can do fun things after work.
顺承:介绍说理论证甲方观点合理性。
Butthere are alwaysexceptions. If yougo to one of the best colleges in China, say Peking University, you will see anumber of brilliant young peoplewho know very earl onwho they are andwhat they are going to do. You will see 16-year old freshman studentswhofinish college physics curriculum before entering college, and arealready way ahead of others doing research on quantum physics curriculum andstring theory. You will also see young fiction writers who have alreadypublished a fewbest-sellingnovelsin their freshman year and sign autographs for their fans. If someone is goingto tell them that there are few available spots for top physicists or thatprofessional writing isn't a stable job, they will probably tell the person tomind his/her own business. It's true.Even if these career paths aremuch narrower for most people, it's still a bright open path for the oneswithextraordinary talent and unlimited drive.
转折:辩证补充说明乙方例外的可能性及意义。
Overall, I don't think there should be a uniform decision for everyone. Forthose who show unmatched gifts and passions, they should just not care aboutjob availability. For others, they probably need to put their foot down and berealistic.
总结:分类辩证陈述两类情况的选择建议。
