1.Some working parents believe childcare centers can provide best care for children, while others think other family members like grandparents can do this job. Discuss both views and give your own opinion. With working occupying the most proportion of people’s life, there exists a heated debate about how to deal with childcare. While some people argue that childcare centers may be an optimal choice for working parents to look after their children, others contend that it may be more proper for relatives to take care of their babies.
On the one hand, childcare centers are professional for taking care of children. It is common that working parents may have insufficient time and energy to take care of their children and then. As professional institute, childcare centers could guarantee that teachers in the center have received training about how to properly treat children. Also, children could learn more knowledge and learn to communicate with peers because there are many other kids there to avoid loneliness of kids.
On the other hand, relatives may raise children more considerately. If kids are taken care of by other family members, then there is nothing about commerce and family members are willing to spend much more money for their nephew or niece, such as buying more qualified food with a balanced diet, which is beneficial to the body development of kids. Besides, objectively, the family tie could be strengthened because family members need to communicate with each other concerning the condition of their joint children.
From my own perspective, neither of these two approaches is perfect. Putting kids in a childcare center has some risks because children may not be taken care of well if there is limited number of teachers with a large amount of children. Raising children by other relatives may also bring a possibility that children will be less intimate with their parents because they are not the role who accompany children for long time. Parents still should allocate sufficient time to pay attention to the development of their children even if they are engaged in working, through which the emotional tie between children and parents could be maintained and children could have more fun with their parents.
2. Governments should make people responsible for looking after their own local environments. To what extent do you agree or disagree? While humans have made strides economically and technologically, the natural environment has become increasingly vulnerable as people cut down trees, pollute the air, water and soil. Therefore, encouraging them to assume the responsibility for protecting and preserving their own environment locally seems to be feasible but is unrealistic indeed.
If the government persuades its citizens to take care of their environment at the local level, some environmental problems will then be solved. Only if every individual in different areas choose to lead a low carbon lifestyle, for example driving less but taking public transport more and using less disposable products but reusing and recycling more, the air will be cleaner and resources on which we thrive consumed less. But if all individuals just continue to damage the environment and take no action to change, the environment in which they reside and live will become a uninhabitable place. Without cooperation with different groups at the local level, the environment will hardly be improved.
But only pushing people to conserve the environment locally cannot address all environmental problems fundamentally. For example, the energy crisis has recently been a tricky problem for most countries, a problem that is so complex that it is beyond an individual’s ability to deal with. This is mainly because developing clean and renewable energy costs money and resources and because a growing number of environmental problems are no longer confined to a certain region or country.
Even worse, a majority of people are reluctant to adopt the solutions the government has proposed. The major reason is that many people consider the environment problem as a future concern. Some environment problems, such as climate change, may need to be tackled even after a century. Time and money is better invested in coping with immediate problems such as house shortage and traffic jam than in preventing a disaster that is only expected to happen in the future.
In conclusion, workable as it seems, inducing people to defend their own local environment not only fails to be an effective solution but is difficult to make this goal a reality in real life and in addition to individual efforts, other measures are also necessary especially when the environment problems is caused by a combination of factors, many of which are too big for an individual to resolve.
3. Young people are leaving their homes from rural areas to study or work in the cities. What are the reasons? Do advantages of this development outweigh its disadvantages?Currently, many young people choose to live or work in urban areas instead of rural areas. This essay will examine the possible reason for this phenomenon and back up the argument that this trend brings more disadvantages than advantages.
A higher quality of life in urban areas may account for why young adults want to dwell or work in cities. It is acknowledged that young adults may find jobs with high salaries in cities, but it may be difficult for them to find such jobs in towns and cities. Also, in cities, young adults have more kinds of recreational activities, while the life in rural areas may be too quiet and boring for them. As a result, cities are much more attractive for young people because they can earn more money to experience new things there.
However, when too many young people migrate to urban areas, the development of rural areas will be affected. After all, enterprises in rural areas may not recruit suitable employees in the future, and the economy in rural areas may not be developed well. Then, rural areas will lose attractiveness for young adults and probably all young people will not choose to stay in rural areas when they need to decide where they want to live and work. As a result, the gap between rural and urban areas will be increasingly huger.
In addition, young adults will face much more pressure living or working in cities. For young people coming from rural areas, their families may not be so wealthy, it means these young people may not afford to buy a house in cities easily. Then, they have to work really diligently to make a living, but working overtime may affect their health. At the end, they may neither have enough deposit to settle down in cities nor have a healthy body.
To sum up, pursuing a better quality of life stimulates young people to reside or work in cities, but this tendency will bring more disadvantages than advantages. Considering the huge gap between cities and counties and much more pressure on these young people.
4. In many countries women are allowed to take maternity and leave from their jobs during the first month after giving birth. Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?Nowadays, maternity leave has been legislated in many countries for the purpose to ensure the health of pregnant women and new-born babies. However, the issue has both pros and cons, and it should not be judged one-sidedly.
The advantages are manifold. First of all, maternity leave is an imperative period of time for new mothers to recover from the delivery. Everybody knows that women suffer a lot from the pregnancy and the production. So it takes time for them to have a recovery. Additionally, a period of leave is a golden opportunity for mothers to carefully attend to babies. The new-born babies are so vulnerable that they need a delicate care, especially the mother’s love. Last but not least, the enterprises the new mothers work for also benefit from the practice. The generosity of employers by allowing maternity leave helps to build the loyalty of employees. The regain of energy after a period of rest will motivate the mother workers to provide better service for the enterprises.
However, there is no garden without weeds. The drawbacks of the issue cannot be ignored. On the downsides, the first problem is that many mothers, especially those who take managerial positions, may experience a decline of career development. Nowadays, the job description is more and more specific. Staying away from a job position for several months is likely to be a barrier to pursue a brighter career development. Besides, the practice is even more worrying for the enterprises. Likewise, when the occupancy of a position is simply limited to a person, the leave of the person will be a headache for the enterprises.
From what has been discussed above, I believe that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. As for the disadvantages, I think there are ways to reduce them. One of the ways is to introduce the telecommuting into the office. It can allow the new mothers to stay at home to recover and take care of babies, and in the meantime, the mothers can deal with some work issues as they are able to.

5.Some people think the qualities a person needs to become successful in today’s world cannot be learned at a university or similar academic institutions. To what extent do you agree or disagree.Access to higher education has been regarded as the imperative way to achieve a successful life. However, it is claimed that colleges and universities can not offer the qualities a person needs to be truly successful. Personally, I think the idea is given without a careful thinking.
To begin with, tertiary education focuses on preparing individuals with productive capability by the development of knowledge and intelligence. Universities are organizations where knowledge is not only disseminated but also advanced. Therefore, universities provide learning conditions that encourage students to be knowledgeable and creative. In today’s job market, the competition for a job offer is fierce. Thick educational background is highly preferred by employers as it is a solid proof of a candidate’s professional competence.
In addition, the higher level of education one can complete, the more weapons he or she can be equipped with to reach success. It is so because completing increasingly advanced levels of education demonstrates that a person has the willingness to learn and apply what to learn to achieve goals. Other than training one in an expert field, a university trains one to build the abilities of analytical thinking, fast understanding and sophisticate communicating. Other crucial skills like organization, management and self-discipline are instilled from start to finish. In other words, university experience helps mold one into be more professionally skillful.
Admittedly, there is the likelihood for being successful without the experience of attending a university. Examples of the fact are not hard to find. Nevertheless, to most of people, the pursuit of a higher education is indispensable to the future success in today's world.
To sum up, the purpose of education is to develop one’s knowledge, intelligence and all essential qualities one needs before he or she steps into the road to success. In this sense, the better one prepares, the easier and quicker one reaches a successful end.
