考研英语词汇作为英语复习中基础的部分，也是容易被忽视的部分。词汇的基本释义要弄清并理解，搭配要熟悉，不能只孤零零地去背诵一两个汉语意思。在理解的基础上，要多读一读例句，理解搭配，熟悉词汇的用法，提高语感。
1、contribute
contribute是一个重点动词，主要有三个意思，而且都很常见，在文章中遇到需要辨别意思。
首先，意为“捐助，捐赠”或者“贡献，奉献”。
He contributed $50 to the charity every payday. 他每逢发薪日都捐50美元给慈善事业。
His research has contributed enormously to our understanding of this disease. 他的研究对我们认识这一疾病贡献很大。
第二，意为“造成，促成”，此时要用contribute to。
The government imposed a tax on fuels which contributed to global warming. 对导致全球变暖的燃料课税。
Parental involvement contributes significantly to children's learning. 父母的参与对孩子学习有重要的作用。
第三，指给报纸或杂志“投稿，撰稿”。
Students are encouraged to contribute articles to the university magazine. 学生们受到鼓励向大学的杂志投稿。
2、contribution
contribution是contribute的名词形式，也是一个常见的重点词汇，它常见的有两个意思。
首先，意为“捐献，捐款”或者“奉献”。
I'd like to make a small contribution to the cost of the holiday. 我想为假期的花费出一点钱。
American economists have made important contributions to the field of financial and corporate economics. 美国的经济学家们在金融和企业经济学领域做出了重要的贡献。

第二，意为“稿件，投稿”。
All contributions for the May issue must be received by Friday. 所有要在五月这一期发表的稿件必须在星期五以前寄到。
3、contrive
contrive是动词，意为“谋划，策划”，也可以指“发明，设计出”。
The oil companies were accused of contriving a shortage of gasoline to justify price increases. 石油公司被控故意制造石油短缺以名正言顺地提高油价。
In 1862, a technique was contrived to take a series of photographs showing stages of movement. 1862 年时发明了一种技术，可以拍出一连串展示连续动作的照片。
contrive to do sth意为“成功做到某事，设法做成某事”，等于manage to do。
Schindler contrived to save more than 1,000 Polish Jews from the Nazis. 辛德勒设法从党手中营救了 1000 多名波兰犹太人。
4、controversial
controversial是形容词，意为“引起争论的，有争议的”，名词为controversy，意为“争论，争议”。
The changes are bound to be controversial. 这些变化注定会引起争议。
Winston Churchill and Richard Nixon were both controversial figures. 温斯顿 · 邱吉尔和理查德 · 都是有争议的人物。
His views have excited a lively controversy among fellow scientists. 他的观点在同行科研人员中激起了热烈的争论。
5、convenience
convenience是名词，意为“方便，便利”，此时是不可数名词，若指“便利设施或装置，带来方便的事物”，这时是可数名词。形容词形式为convenient，意为“方便的，便利的”。
The system is based on administrative convenience rather than public benefit. 这一体制是基于管理上的方便而非公众的利益。
We leave the keys near the front door for the sake of convenience. 为了方便，我们把钥匙放在正门附近。
They wouldn't like to live without modern conveniences such as microwaves. 他们不愿过那种没有微波炉之类现代化便利设施的生活。
It's very convenient that you live near the office. 你们住在办公室附近很方便。
