I think the main difference is how in-depth they go in analyzing the historical events. In primary school history, the main objective is to draw students’interest to this seemingly boring subject, so the classes are often proceeded in a storytelling mode, with the teacher trying to recap what has transpired in the past in a bedtime story fashion.
But high school history places a much greater emphasis on understanding the cause-and-effect relationships between one historical event and another. So in other words, in high school history, students are expected to figure out the root causes for various events, and then connect the dots to comprehend the big picture behind. It requires a much stronger critical thinking ability than primary school history. So obviously, high school history is a lot harder in this sense.
