Some people believe that the increasing business and culture exchanges between different countries is a positive phenomenon. However, others believe that this could lead to a loss of national identities. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

It has long been a controversy about whether international exchange on business and culture is beneficial or not. While some people regard the development as a positive trend, I would agree with the argument that the many countries would lose their national characters.
On the one hand, it is undeniable that such a trend of globalization does bring about enormous benefits to developed countries, who have earned billions of dollars by exporting tons of products to the rest of the world. One compelling example is relentless advance of McDonald’s all over the globe, which not only brings economic return to the US but also disseminate American lifestyle to the younger generations in many countries. Such a fast food culture does work in many fast-developing countries where the youngsters prioritize efficiency over everything else.
However, I would support the opponents of this global tendency, who reckon the trend as economic and cultural colonization, particularly for those impoverished countries which do not have the equal national capability to resist the dumping of international brands, not to mention the export of their own artefacts and values. For those third world countries in Asia, Africa and South America, what they experienced is the bankruptcy of local enterprises under competition of foreign rivals. What is more serious, with indigenous products being ousted by multinational counterparts, the lifestyle and customs of a nation may also vanish, as a country’s language, history and ethos are inextricably bound up in its artefacts. How would the tradition of Chinese New Year be without its hand-made dumplings?
In conclusion, although the cross-border trade and cultural communication does make developed countries richer and more influential than ever before, I would say that the rewards are at the costs of the lack of richness and diversity of cultures and traditions worldwide.
